Politics

The Bible prophesies that Republicans will win control of the US government. Is that a good thing? If things were evaluated solely based on the platforms of the two prominent political parties in the US, Republicans and Democrats, I could readily get behind supporting the Republican party. However, there’s something bigger going on that is truly significant, and the Bible has foretold this reality for a long time. We trust the Bible because of the long and consistent accuracy of its prophecies.

It’s helpful to have a basic awareness of something called the hegelian dialectic. This is a philosophical method, “an interpretive method in which the contradiction between a proposition (thesis) and its antithesis is resolved at a higher level of truth (synthesis).” (Definition courtesy of dictionary.com) Basically, the masses are distracted with two alternatives that really are not the issue and the real issue is safely forwarded regardless of which of the two obvious alternatives prevails. The main agenda remains out of view and unobstructed by whichever alternative succeeds, whichever political party prevails.

It is helpful also to recognize that God is not limited to any man-made religious organization or denomination. This isn’t about whose church is right. All earthly churches in the organized sense are functioning in opposition to God. There is a true church, but it is comprised of people faithful to Christ according to the Word of God, not any creed or systematic religion. The Bible prophesies that God’s true church will be called out of Babylon, out of the confusion of false religion. There are people with hearts who are faithful to God according to the understanding that has been revealed to them. God will not leave these faithful people in a state of ignorance. God will by His Holy Spirit cause His truth to be known in the last days such that people will have to make a decision that clearly places them either faithful to Him or not. This decision is described in Revelation 14:9-12 as the third angel’s message.

The third angel’s message foretells all people choosing to have either the seal of God or the mark of the beast. This seal or mark is not a physical mark or any sort of technology. This seal or mark is simply the choice one makes about obeying God. The choice to obey God is described in the third angel’s message as those who keep the commandments of God and have the faith of Jesus. (Revelation 14:12) This is simply describing what the Bible says is righteousness by faith. Righteousness is ‘right doing’ which is obeying God’s commandments. Jesus says, “If you love me, keep my commandments.” The Bible plainly tells us that our righteousness is as filthy rags, that we can’t, by our own strength, obey God’s commandments. It is the faith of Jesus, Christ in us our hope of glory, that makes it possible to obey God’s commandments. We obey God’s commandments by choosing to let Christ reign in our hearts thereby enabling His righteousness, obedience to God, to work through us. Jesus calls this being reborn. This rebirth is signified by acknowledging sin, confessing sin, repentance of sin and the symbolic dying to sin through submersive baptism and resurrection to new life in Christ by coming up out of the water. Our part is to acknowledge sin and let Christ change us – to give us clean hearts. Christ came to overcome sin, all sin. No small sin that remains unrepented can remain in the faithful follower of Christ. It is Christ’s righteousness in us and Christ does not sin – at all. No one is too sinful to repent. Some are too worldly, prideful and stubborn to repent, but none are too sinful.

God’s commandments have been given to man explicitly as the ten commandments. The keeping of only one of these ten commandments will clearly distinguish whether one has the seal of God or the mark of the beast. The Bible tells us that the fourth commandment, the seventh-day Sabbath, will be the sign between God and His people.

There is a worldly power called in the Bible the beast which is acting to persuade as many as possible to reject God’s truth and Christ’s righteousness. This beastly power has been recognized for hundreds of years at least as early as the first Protestant reformers as papal power. Notice that one of the first things every US president ever does after being elected is to travel to Rome and pay homage to the pope. It matters not which political party the president was elected by. This popish power is a combination of church and state. The religious aspect of Rome cannot without the support of state power force its agenda on the world. This power is working to unite church and state to effect its agenda to use state power to attempt to force all people to bow to its rules in opposition to God’s commandments. Republicans being heavily represented by evangelical minded Christians will rise to power in the US and act to enforce the Romish agenda to force people to violate God’s commandments, namely to reject the seventh-day Sabbath, by enforcing Sunday laws. The enactment and enforcement of Sunday laws will mark a significant prophetic milestone. These are the last days of this world of sin.

Just professing that the seventh-day Sabbath is God’s Sabbath and the sign between Him and His people doesn’t make anyone faithful to God. Faithfulness to God requires full submission to Christ and complete obedience to all of God’s commandments even in the private corners of our hearts. This is only possible by faith in Christ’s righteousness. The Sabbath will simply be a specific issue that plainly reveals whether we have the seal of God or the mark of the beast. Those who now understand the biblical truth of the Sabbath but ultimately fail to be faithful to God in all things will be held to a high standard of accountability, higher than others who didn’t have this truth in their possession.

If we fail to make faithfulness to God and His Word our top priority, we will forfeit eternal life. Politics, despite the practical necessity of governance, is a fatal distraction.
